MAPS asked students around the CSB about voting patterns on campus for Organizational Communication. The team carried a camera and microphone around, asking questions to students they ran into. “Voting was something we all knew about and it’s very relevant right now,” said team member Payton Crims.
MAPS is an acronym of the team members’ first initials and represents their hope to point people in the right direction. Their main goal was to increase student and civic engagement on campus by asking students why they did or didn’t vote in the most recent election, and some were asked if the college or school educated students enough on the ways to vote.
The answers seemed to vary. When the team asked if they voted in the election on April 1st, some felt they didn’t have enough time to get to a polling place. Others had cast early ballots to complete their civic duty.
“Not many people talk about voting on campus, and we wanted to see that change,” said Crims, “We hope students will learn how to register to vote and find all the ways they can vote from campus or at home.”
