This past Family Weekend, parents, students, faculty and staff members crammed inside the Wells Theater on September 27 for the second-annual My Story event, which brings students from the campus community together to share their stories and be heard without fear of being judged or alienated by their peers.
Senior and ASMC President Maggie Bruckner presented at the event. When asked about the personal impact it has on her she said, “It means a lot to me that this event has taken off and been accepted and liked by hundreds of people on campus.” She continued, “The best part is that it’s impacting people’s lives on campus. That’s the best thing that could happen.”
Maggie said that it lets students know they are not alone.
“It lets them know that their experiences are unique yet shared with people all around campus. I think it’s beneficial to have an event where students can listen to their peers and relate to them,” she said.
As for the impact on the campus, Maggie said: “It means a place of vulnerability and learning. My story is an event where I cannot only learn to be open and honest but also being an ally to those sharing those experiences.”
