It’s that time of year! Haunted houses across the area are open and everyone is checking them out to get into the spirit of Halloween. Where in the area are some of the best places to find a haunted house?
In Galesburg, you can find Shadows Realm, located in two buildings that were built during World War II as an army hospital. Admission is $10 per person and is open on Friday and Saturdays in October from 7pm to 11pm. Among the scares, you will find a spinning floor in the haunted house and a 3D section. I have been to this haunted house twice now and I approve!
If one haunted house in Galesburg isn’t enough for you, Walk of the Dead is also offered as a walk-through haunted trail near Lake Storey. Admission is $15 per person and is open every Friday and Saturday in October from 7pm- 11pm.
For a further drive, in the Quad Cities, you can find the QC Haunted Forest in Port Byron. A hayrack picks you up and drops you off to walk through the forest. Admission is $15 per person and is open from 7pm to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays in October.
Also, in Moline is Factory of Fear, general admission is $20 and is open from 7pm to midnight and on Sundays and Halloween from 7pm to 10pm.
In Orion, about a 45-minute drive from campus, you can find Torment at 1200. Torment at 1200 was voted the top overall attraction of Illinois Haunted Houses in 2018. Tickets are $18 per person and is open from 7pm to 12am on Friday and Saturday nights and on Sundays from 7pm to 10pm.
Don’t want to go very far from campus to find a “haunting?” Outside of town, you can find what is known as “Cry Baby Bridge.” There are different stories of why this bridge about four miles outside of town is haunted, but they say if you put your car in neutral on the bridge, “a child will push it across the bridge to safety.” If you put baby powder on the back bumper of your car, you could see handprints, some say. There are theories out there that argue against this though. Go check it out for yourself and see what you believe!
