This past weekend, April Zorn Memorial Stadium was filled with anticipation…Could the Scots beat undefeated Ripon in order to have a three-way tie for first in the conference?
The Scots stayed ahead throughout out the first quarter leading 12-2 at the start of the second. But by half time the Scots were behind Ripon with a score of 23-19.
That lead for Ripon would not last long. The second half started rough with both sides punting, an interception and a blocked punt recovered on the Rippon 7 yard line. Quarterback Carter Boyer right for a touchdown on the next play and the Scots regained the lead at 26-23. After that touchdown the Scots could not stop, advancing their lead to 39-23 before Ripon would score again late in the fourth quarter to make the final score 39-31.
This win put the Scots in a three way tie with Ripon and Lake Forest in the Midwest Conference. With all the excitement of the game there was also more going on, with this being the last regular season home game it was time to honor the seniors. Honored were the football player seniors along with the cheerleading seniors.
“It was a great way to end my senior football cheer season, and it was such a fun game to watch,” said Scots senior cheerleader Halle Majdich “I’m going to miss the college game day atmosphere, so it was a good note to end on”.
The Scots may not be returning to April Zorn Memorial Stadium this season, but they will be close by on Saturday at Knox College for the annual Turkey Bowl with kickoff at Noon. Also this weekend, Lake Forest plays Chicago and Ripon plays Lawrence. If all three win this weekend, the next tiebreaker is quarters led with Monmouth and Lake Forest even at 28 and Ripon on 24 heading into the last game.
