On October 19th, Monmouth’s music department held their Fall Choir Concert in the Kasch Performance Hall of Dahl Chapel. They showcased the talents of the Chorale, the Chamber Choir, and the Concert Choir. Solee Lee-Clark accompanied each choir on piano.
The Concert Choir, directed by Kaitlyn McCullough, started the night off with their performance of Here I Am Lord by Daniel L. Schutte. Emerson Martin took the lead with his solo in Always Something Sings by Dan Forrest.
“…even in the darkest times, even when nothing is going right, there is always music. It’s always that constant,” McCullough said. The Concert Choir’s last song performed an acapella version of Water Fountain by the Tune-Yards, accompanied by Kent Huth and Camille Prentiss on percussion.
The Chorale followed afterward, performing A Silence Haunts Me by Jake Runestad. The power in their performance of the 10-minute song left audience members on the edges of their seats, with strong vocals and surprising accompaniment.
The Chamber Choir, directed by Tim Pahel, took the stage next, with their performances of Marsh Flowers by Benjamin Britten, Child of Wonder by Eric Whitacre, and ended with Never Let Go by Rob Dietz.
Led by Pahel, the Chorale returned to the stage to finish the concert. The choir performed Joy by Hans Bridget Heruth, with solos from Samantha Zigmant and Lillie Fenton and pianist Janell Johnson joined by Lee-Clark.
Soloist Fenton, Zigmant, and River Nevel led the group in singing True Colors by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinburg. The Chorale ended the night with Domaredansen, a Swedish Folk song by Bengt Hallberg.
At the end of the Fall Concert, all choirs joined on stage, including alumni, to perform the Alma Mater. The joined voices filled Dahl Chapel and helped unite the choir members of Monmouth College, both past and present.
