Carl Hamberg steps out of a Warren County Public transportation vehicle every weekday morning for his shift at the Monmouth Cafe since 1968.
“My father gave me the job and on my first day, I was peeling 500 pounds of potatoes,” Hamberg said. “I washed pots and pans too.”
Hamberg’s dedication to the cafe has been noticed by other students at the college.
“He is always a joy to be welcomed when I arrive for breakfast after class,” said Dawson Hensley. “The first thing I notice is his smile and then a little wave towards me.”
Outside of work, Hamberg has a strong interest in his faith. He associates himself with local Methodist Churches, helping with their vacation bible school programs.
“I had a youth minster tell me that I could be helping with Sunday school and vacation bible school,” Hamberg said.
On December 8, 2023, Hamberg received an award from former college president Clarence Wyatt at the annual Employee Recognition event, celebrating 55 years of service with the college’s cafe.
“I enjoy working here,” Hamberg said.
