Being a morning person is not everyone’s cup of tea. With the pandemic we are currently living in, it can be harder to improve our mood in the morning. Restrictions, masks, and the unknown makes it even harder to get out of bed. If we change a few things during our morning routine, it can make us feel better for the rest of the day.
Shyanne Sheehan, a student at Monmouth College and the Editor in Chief of The Courier, considers herself to be a morning person. “My mood is usually really really good in the mornings,” said Sheehan. She discussed a few ways that help her start off her day just right.
These simple five steps can help you be just as ready to start your day as Sheehan.
Some type of cleansing really helps. This can be as simple as brushing your teeth or washing your face. Showering is one of the best things you can do to wake yourself up in the morning.
Drinking some water in the morning also helps. “Water is supposed to be very good for you in the morning, so I try to drink at least a cup in the morning,” Sheehan said.
Looking at your calendar to see what you have going on for the day and what you need to accomplish can also prepare you for what to expect throughout the day.
Sheehan also likes to pick up miscellaneous items around the room. She thinks that “decluttering” her space makes her mind at ease. This assures her that when she comes back from a long day of classes, she does not have to worry about a messy room.
Making a cup of coffee, whether it is hot or cold, can also make your day go better. Caffeine can help wake you up, but also why not have a flavored coffee to get yourself going?
