Quick and Captivating:
Daisy Jones and the Six, Taylor Jenkins Reid
Are you looking for a quick read with a TV show that you can binge watch immediately after? Daisy Jones and the Six is a novel written in interviews about a fictionalized seventies rock band and their rise and fall of fame. The story follows two lead singers, Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, as they navigate fame, drugs, and relationships, as well as the rest of the band in the 1970’s rock and roll scene. Amazon Prime just released their 10-episode adaptation of the novel earlier this month, with all episodes currently available for streaming.
Love and Romance:
Breathless, Jennifer Niven
With summer right around the corner, perhaps you’re wanting to get into a carefree mindset and unwind with a deep yet comforting young adult romance. Breathless is a story about a young woman just trying to find herself as she enters the adult world of family drama, sex, and complicated friendships. It takes place over the course of a single summer on an island that is nearly untouched by the modern technology of cell phones and wifi, a perfect way to unplug from the stress of college life.
Nostalgic Throwback:
The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins
If you’ve been on TikTok at all in the last month and a half, chances are you’ve stumbled across what’s become known as “The Hunger Games Renaissance” side of TikTok. Many of us Gen-Z students read or watched The Hunger Games as early as elementary or middle school. With the new prequel movie, A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes set to premiere this November, the franchise has been experiencing a resurgence in popularity once again. Perhaps it's time for a reread (or first-read) of the best-selling trilogy.
