“It is a great exercise and activity for physical and mental health,” said Professor Mike Nelson, one of the clubs advisors. “Rock climbing is a fun sport that all sorts of people can do and try. It involves fun sorts of body movements and using your brain to figure out patterns on a wall and how to map your body onto it.”

Freshman Michael Beckett said one reason he likes the club is, “I look really cool doing it.”

“I like climbing the routes because when I first came here that’s something I didn’t know how to do,” said Beckett. “Now it’s like second nature, so it’s kind of an achievement and something my past self wouldn’t of believed I could do.”

Scott Cousins, a climber in the morning classes, says how his favorite part is socializing, “It’s like a big social event, just with people high up.”

Not only is it physically good for you, but rock-climbing can help you build friendships. Jayden Bedsole, a weekly climber, said “I feel like the friends I made through rock-climbing carry over to my life at Monmouth. I’m really glad I met people here because it’s a really fun community to be in.”

The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday night from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Trotter Fitness Center in the Huff.

With this result, the Scots improve to 7-13 overall and 4-3 in league play, now tied with the Pioneers in league standings. Both teams occupy the final two conference tournament qualifying spots.

“I think we realized we didn’t come out as strong as we wanted to.” said Melina Teunis, who led the Scots in blocks with 11 on the evening. “In the second set, we really got our momentum going and that carried [through] the rest of the game.”

“We were all just serving really aggressive,” said Kaylee Celus, who recorded a career-high eight aces on the evening. “We were just working on the seams, and we sort of knew who to serve to, so we were just being really aggressive.”

Blocks were also aplenty for the Scots at the front row, with Bri Woodward and Abby Viano following Teunis with seven and five blocks, respectively.

“When I’m in the back row and I see them get a huge block, I get so excited for them. We’d get a block and then we’d be like ‘Let’s go get another one! Let’s go get another one!’ It was so exciting.” added Celus.

The Scots will play their final three home regular season games from October 30 through November 2. On the 30th, Monmouth will host the Foresters of Lake Forest College with first serve set for 7 p.m., and on Halloween, will host the Beloit Buccaneers with a 1 p.m. first serve.

The Big Blue found the back of the net in the 15th and 37th minutes, and when chaos in the box forced an own goal, Millikin led Monmouth 3-0 after 45 minutes.

Freshman Mubaraq Basheer slotted a shot into the lower corner in the 47th minute, earning his third goal of the season. This hope was short lived as Millikin tacked on three more goals in the 69th and 86th minutes to seal their victory. Millikin’s Matthew Hart earned a brace with goals in the 15th and 86th minutes.

After going on the road for the annual Highway 34 derby with Knox on October 24, the Fighting Scots will finish the season by playing for pride against Luther College on Halloween. The Norse are currently ranked 4th in the NCAA’s Region IX and will prove to be a tough test for the Scots to finish the season.

Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. on Halloween at Peacock Park, and the women’s game follows at 1:30 p.m.

Kicking off both days of the tournament with a 10am shotgun start, the Scots played at Soangetaha Country Club, a course they have never competed at. With this being a new and difficult course, many of the players did not shoot their usual scores. Lexie Campell said, “This was a very different course than what we are used to.” This was the first time Knox College has ever hosted the women’s invitational, as they previously never had a women’s team of their own.

Although it was a difficult course, many of our players did well in the rankings. Luke Foster, a Senior who has played on the team all 4 years placed in 7^th, by shooting 7 over par day one, and 3 over par on day two, totaling at a 154 for the entire weekend. Cooper Hansen, a Junior who transferred from playing at Carl Sandburg, placed in 18^th, by shooting a total of 159 both days. On the women’s side, Leighton Trego placed in 4^th, shooting 22 over par the first day and 25 over the second day. Closely following Lexie Campell placed 7^th overall shooting 33 over par day one and 19 over on day two. Cambell said, “I would’ve liked to do better for my last tournament, but I’m happy I got to finish my last season with all my favorite people here.” She described that she felt like she was in a “mental funk” on day one, and that she feels golf is a very mental game. “I got back after day one and had to just breathe for a minute and let my overthinking go away before day two.” She ended up shooting 14 strokes better on day two because she believed her mental state was much better.

The Scots will now be on a break until their spring season, which the schedule has not been announced.

“STEM Ambassadors is a class that not only fulfills the community engagement requirement for STEM majors, but it also teaches us how to communicate science effectively,” said Mel Bivolarov, a STEM Ambassador. “We are able to design our own STEM outreach to not only engage with the people around us, but to learn how to communicate science to a wide range of audiences.”

Bivolarov was stationed at one telescope providing information about what attendees were looking at through it. During the event, they were able to learn about the names of craters, trenches, and mountains on the moon, the orbital patterns of the planets and the best times to see them, how the telescopes work, and more.

Professor Michael Solontoi had a second telescope set up that had been pointed to observe Saturn. Bivolarov explained that the second telescope has a GPS feature. “You can tell it to find a planetary object for you, and it will move itself into that direction.”

The STEM Ambassadors organize events on campus as part of their community outreach. “We’re trying to get people, especially younger people...interested in science,” Bella Moore, another STEM Ambassador, said. “Because it’s not the boring thing that everyone thinks it is sometimes. There’s fun stuff to do in STEM.”

“I do this because I wholeheartedly believe in well-roundedness,” Bivolarova said. “I was very passionate about this project because it gave me an opportunity to remind people that science isn’t just working in a lab or doing calculations, but it’s observing the world around us and taking an interest in things that are different from us. Science is talking to people, getting creative, and sharing knowledge.”

Local professional group Nova Singers performed songs composed and originally conducted by Barrett, which is what brought him to Illinois in the first place. It seemed every college and high school in the area leapt at the opportunity for Barrett to work with them, given the conductor was hopping between many of them during his stay here, including our chorale.

Becca Nielsen, a senior and future music educator, worked with Barrett twice: once as a chorale member and once as a member of Nova Singers. “I found it really interesting how he approached the ensembles differently but maintained such passion and sophistication in regard to the music,” said Neilsen

Barrett had ninety minutes with the choir starting his workshop with vocal warm-ups. Efficient in his methods of teaching, he would start simply and build in more complicated rhythms and harmonies. Barrett worked with chorale on two of his songs they were performing for their fall concert, Ndikokhele Bawo and Modimo. His method of slowly layering in harder concepts continued when he demonstrated the correct movements for the song Modimo, which is a celebratory piece that traditionally features South African dance.

“He was a masterclass in differentiating content without losing its complexity and substance,” said Nielsen. “Watching his process was an experience I’ll remember and use as a resource for the rest of my career.”

Barrett explained how the cultural landscape of his home country influences the music he composes. “Like any country in the world, we are still struggling with massive injustice...So as artists, it’s our job to create bridges and avenues and conversations around this so that we can do our part in making people aware.”

This spirit of connection is present in the music he arranges and conducts, which is often a mix of traditional African musical styles and traditional music from Western music. Barrett said, “Borrowing music from both...to create something incredibly beautiful, something that’s neither Africa nor Western, but what I like to call South African, and that has been the focus of my music.”

After two concerts by Nova Singers featuring his music, the chorale had their turn in front of an audience on October 23^rd. The Fall Concert featured a wide range of music beyond the South African pieces; a quintet of string players were brought on to accompany on Domine ad Adjuvandum me Festina, the big Baroque opener for the concert, and the strings accompanied as well on To The Hands, a six movement piece arranged by young and accomplished composer Caroline Shaw. The chamber choir performed as well: a slow and gentle Spanish number called Suave and a lively jazz piece called Bumblebee. After the chamber was done, it was time for Ndikokhele Bawo and Modimo. Both pieces were performed with the style and movements taught by Barrett.

Eventually, William formed an interest in astronomy, often pulling Caroline away from music to help build telescopes that they would use to map the shape of the Milky Way galaxy. Caroline helped to record and document the observations, while William scanned the sky, calling out observations. In 1782, William was named the King’s Astronomer, and Caroline was formally recognized by the government for her role in assisting him, making her the first woman in Britain to earn an income in the sciences.

In her spare time, she made observations of her own using a small telescope to search for comets, and recorded her observations of nebulae. She discovered many new star clusters; notably, in 1983 she discovered “a beautiful cluster of pretty compressed stars”, now called NGC 2360 or “Caroline’s Cluster”. In 1786, she wrote the Royal Society, stating, “Last night, the 1st of August, about 10 o’clock, I found an object… I suspected it to be a comet,” becoming the first woman to discover a comet. She later published a list of 560 stars not listed in the British Catalogue of Fixed Stars, which was the most accurate star catalogue of the time, organizing the stars by their position in the sky rather than by the constellation they appear in, which had been the standard prior to her publication. Her catalogue was published in 1802 by the Royal Society and would later become the basis for the New General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars, introducing the use of NCG in Nebulae and star cluster naming.

In 1822, her brother passed, and she returned to Hanover, Germany, continuing her work in astronomy. The last observation entry she made was on January 31^st,1824, with the observation of the Great Comet of 1823.

Caroline was one of the few female scientists in the late 18^th to early 19^th century who received acknowledgement for her work while she lived. In 1828, she was the first woman to receive the gold medal from the Royal Astronomical Society; the next woman would not receive this award until 1996, more than 150 years later. Caroline Herschel died January 9^th,1848, at the age of 97. An asteroid, Asteroid 281 Lucretia, a Crater on the Moon, lunar crater C. Herschel, and a comet, 35P/Herschel-Rigollet, were all named in her honor. The inscription on her tomb that she wrote
reads: “The eyes of her who is glorified here below turned to the starry heavens.”

The Fighting Scots opened the day against the Grinnell Pioneers, who defeated Monmouth 7-0. Grinnell entered the matchup ranked #1 in the MWC with an undefeated conference record of 7-0.

Lauren Buttrick of Grinnell handed Ivana Stefanova her first loss of the season, defeating her in 2 sets. Stefanova had won her first seven matches of the season before facing Buttrick. Stefanova and Jenny Nelson also competed in a closely contested doubles match, ultimately falling 4-6.

Monmouth found more success in its second matchup of the day against Cornell College, earning two wins in the singles portion. After the Scots dropped all three doubles matches against the Rams, they responded with wins from Stefanova and Tiah Riggs. This was Riggs’s third win of the season.

“Even though not everyone came out with a win, our team always puts up a fight,” said sophomore Tiah Riggs.

The Fighting Scots concluded their fall season on Saturday with losses against Lawrence and Lake Forest. They will be training in the off-season, hoping to start strong in the spring.

Against the Lady Blues, the Scots hung with the visitors all throughout the match, dropping the first two sets 25-18 and 25-21 before catching fire and claiming the third set 25-12. However, the Lady Blues found their touches once again and won the fourth set 25-14 to shut the door on the Scots.

Bri Woodard led the Scots in kills on the evening with 10, followed by Kaylee Celus with eight. Kami Barth and Isa Hughes each earned three aces on the night with Celus right behind them earning two. In the blocks category, Chloe Strachan and Abby Viano co-led Monmouth with six blocks each.

The next day, the Scots flipped the script, sweeping Knox in dominating fashion to claim the annual Hwy 34 derby. The hosts took each set by scores of 25-19, 25-13, and 25-11.

Celus led the team in kills that afternoon with 12 and aces with three. Melina Teunis led the Scots in blocks with four, followed by Viano with three and Woodard with two.

After hosting the Grinnell Pioneers on October 20, the Scots will return to Glennie Gym to play the final three matches of the regular season. Monmouth will host Lake Forest on October 30, Beloit on Halloween, and Blackburn to close out the campaign on November 2. First serves against the Foresters and Beavers are set for 7 p.m., while first serve against the Buccaneers is slated for 1 p.m. on Halloween.

Coming off a bye week, Monmouth established control early. Quarterback Silas Braun opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run before connecting with Gabriel Zeigler-Harris on a 35-yard touchdown pass. The Scots added two more scores in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 24-0 lead. Head coach and defensive coordinator Chad Braun credited the team’s physicality on both sides of the ball for its strong start. “They’re a physical football team, and we’re a physical football team, and you saw our physicality at the beginning of that game,” Braun said.

The Scots quickly added on in the third quarter when Nate Wrublik scored on a 10-yard run, extending Monmouth’s lead to 30-0. Braun was pleased with how his team performed throughout the first half and into the third quarter.

“About as clean a football as I’ve seen us play this year,” Braun said regarding the team’s performance.

Luther responded in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns, but the Scots maintained their lead to secure the Homecoming victory. Beyond the result on the field, the weekend brought former players and alumni back to campus.

The Fighting Scots return to April Zorn Memorial Stadium to face the University of Chicago on Saturday, October 24th.

The first of the many festivities took place on Friday afternoon when SigEp’s new house, which had been completed the semester before, was formally opened to the campus community and dedicated. The ceremony included speeches from Monmouth SigEp alumni William Murschel ’75 and Don McKinley ’50, a founding member of the Illinois Gamma chapter.

Monmouth College President Patricia Draves also spoke at the ceremony, in addition to former and current SigEp Grand Chapter Presidents Brad Nahrstadt ’89 and Dave Calderon.

“Today is about a building, but it is also about something much larger. It is about people, relationships, shared values, and a commitment that has endured for 77 years on the Monmouth College campus.” said President Draves.

“Across higher education, fraternities and sororities are sometimes questioned and have some negative press. When people think of Greek life, they often focus on the challenges rather than the opportunities, but at Monmouth, fraternities are living their values and contributing positively to campus life. They provide something students need now more than ever: community, connection, mentorship, and a sense of belonging.”

To Monmouth SigEp alumnus and former Grand Chapter President Brad Nahrstadt, this was a moment that very literally hit close to home.

“It is my chapter. It is my home chapter”, said Nahrstadt. “And it is really inspiring and exciting to be a part of opening a new facility that is going to allow us to continue to provide a life-changing experience for the gentlemen who join this chapter, who belong to the chapter now, and who will belong to the chapter long after I am gone.”

The festivities continued into the next day, where after the Fighting Scot football team’s win, current brothers, alumni, and other campus community members flocked to the SigEp house to watch six current SigEps shave their heads in the name of cancer research.

In the weeks leading up to homecoming, SigEp partnered with St. Baldrick’s, a non-profit dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research everywhere.

“We have never done St. Baldrick’s before.”, said Anthony Guppy, SigEp’s philanthropy chair.

“I was only expecting three people, and I would even do it, but then we got six people, and so I thought this would be an excellent opportunity not only for us to raise all this money for [cancer research], but it also gives us good PR.”

Six SigEp brothers took the challenge: Guppy, Rowan Love, Evan Eisfelder, Rayden Peterson, Jonathan Borgman, and chapter President Kent Huth, who got the honor of having his head shaved by SigEp Grand Chapter President Dave Calderon.

Monmouth College chaplain John Huxtable ’04 also volunteered to shave his head. He was also the fundraiser’s top donor with $922 chipped in.

Because the six volunteers raised a total of over $3500, all of them went under the razor on Saturday afternoon. When all was said and done, the final total for the fundraiser was $3,689.

“There isn’t a known cure for it. The most that you can do is be monitored and possibly get a heart transplant, which is also kind of a struggle for them because of how many complications there are,” said Lantau

Lantau has been very close with Osborne and her family for years, Osborne being the niece of Lantau’s brother. “I absolutely adore them. We’ve all gone on many trips together and just tried to make as many memories as we could for this little girl together.

The painting Lantau made of Osborne shows her in her mermaid dress with her arm around a flamingo, her favorite animal. The painting took Lantau around 2-3 weeks to finish because of its larger size. “At first, this painting was going to be potentially auctioned off and used to raise more money, but as we were going into it, we realized that maybe it would be best if it went to her mother, Jennifer, as something to keep forever.”

The painting was made as part of Osborne’s Flamingo Ball. A party, thrown because Osborne was sad she couldn’t go to prom with older kids and because she had a major operation coming up. Osborne was known as the High Empress at the ball. “Over a 1000 people showed up to make her dreams come true.”

The first time Osborne had this surgery, there were complications. Lantau said, “She went into what we believed was cardiac arrest while on the table”. The second time she had the surgery was initially more successful, but there were more complications later. While she was unresponsive for a time, Osborne has woken up and is doing much better. “She is doing incredibly well! She is an absolute miracle. She is now able to sit up all by herself.

Drew then went on to his internship and residency at Royal Victoria Hospital and Montreal General Hospital, where his focus turned toward blood transfusions. He earned a Rockefeller fellowship in 1938 and started toward a doctorate at Columbia University, where he began collaborating with John Scudder and continued his research into blood preservation and fluid replacement.

In 1940, Drew published his doctoral thesis titled “Banked Blood: A Study in Blood Preservation,” during World War II, when Great Britain was in dire need of blood and plasma, leading to Drew and Scudder’s crucial work in launching the “Blood for Britain” program to transport plasma overseas. The delivery of plasma can be used with any blood type and helps to replace essential fluids and treat shock, meaning the 5,000 liters of plasma that were delivered to England were monumental in saving the lives of wounded soldiers.

With the success of the “Blood for Britain” Program, in 1941, Drew became the first Black surgeon to serve as examiner on the American Board of Surgery and the first director of the American Red Cross Blood Bank in New York. Despite the desperate need for blood during World War II, though, the armed forces prohibited black donors. Eventually, in January of 1942, the Red Cross began allowing black donors, but much to the opposition of Drew, the blood was segregated, supplies stored separately by race, and only allowed black blood to be received by a black person. In 1944, Drew wrote to the director of the federal Labor Standards Association saying, “It was a bad mistake for 3 reasons: (1) No official department of the Federal Government should willfully humiliate its citizens; (2) There is no scientific basis for the order; and (3) They need the blood.” The American Red Cross finally ended its blood segregation in 1950.

After his work with the National Blood Bank, Drew focused on training and mentoring surgical residents and medical students; he was appointed chief of staff at Freedmen’s Hospital in 1944, elected Fellow to the International College of Surgeons in 1946, and was a consultant to the Surgeon General in 1949. In the end, Drew was a professor and Chief of Surgery at Howard Medical School when he tragically passed after a severe car accident in 1950.

After the Rams opened the scoring in the sixth minute, freshman Lily Palazzolo answered in the seventh minute when she received a through-ball pass from Mariah Hobson to break free and beat Cornell keeper Violet Fiers on a breakaway, finding the back of the net soon after. Morgan Kistler tacked on another goal ten minutes later, rebounding a shot by Palazzolo that came off the foot of the post.

The Scots led 2-1 after the first 45 minutes.

“It’s not something my girls are used to,” said Head Coach Rhys Lewis about Cornell’s high back line. The Rams caught the Scots offside six times in the first half alone.

“It’s all on the girls. {I’ve been] telling the girls to plan it early: make different runs, hold your runs, plan simple one-two’s, and [it’s] really just trying to make it easy on my girls to go and score.”

The Scots came right out of the in the second when Mariah Hobson caught Cornell’s keeper off her line and lobbed a ball over her head from 35 yards out in the 47th, and again soon after when Kistler found a sharp-angled shot that hit the interior netting, allowing Monmouth to walk out of Peacock Park with three points.

The Scots outshot the Rams 22-12 (16-4) on the afternoon and both Cadence Covert only need to make three saves through the 90 minutes.

The men’s soccer contest originally scheduled for the following day was postponed due to heavy rain and is set to be played on October 15 at noon.

On Friday, the Scots fell to American Rivers Conference hotshot Simpson College 5-0 and will return to Peacock Park to face Ripon College on October 17 at 1:30 p.m. as the nightcap of a men/women doubleheader.

“We had a really tough preseason schedule this year,” said Head Coach Hope Sackmann. “We faced some really good teams that pushed us out of our comfort zone and really challenged us which I believe in the end will make us stronger going into conference play.”

The team fought hard with a (25-28) score with Kylee Celus leading kills for the Scots with five. The Scots lost the 2nd set (20-24). In the 3rd set, the team traded points with Coe and began to trail, until Bri Woodard and Celus got a kill to cut the lead to (18-20). The Scots were briefly trailing again until Celus got a clutch ace and Woodard tied the match (24-24). The Kohawks got a late game ace to win the overall match.

Despite the loss, Sackmann saw some mental toughness from the team. “We never gave up even when the pressure was on us at the end of the set. I also thought our block showed up and was big at the net … which created some really big stops for us on the defensive side.”

The Fighting Scots return to Glennie tonight at 7:00 to face Illinois College and on Saturday at Noon with a match against Knox.

Attendees got to explore, learn, and get involved with the multiple examples of how Classics intersect across different disciplines such as Art, Computer Science, English, Music and Physics.

“Last time we made this was my freshman year, and it’s a lot of fun to put together,” said Logan Serpette, a senior Classics major. Serpette’s table was at had three therapy dogs, a Doberman and two Shetland sheepdogs, for attendees to interact with. “Hecate has always been my favorite deity for as long as I knew about Greek mythology and the leader of dogs…So I made a tie into that for our little activity to bring therapy dogs.”

Freshman Lahna Schroeder participated in a Classics’ SOfIA project this summer which in part learned about cheese & garum, a fermented fish sauce used in the ancient world. “You can’t have classics without the staples of the ancient world,” said Schroeder. She said that the activity was a great way for everyone to see what was eaten and used back in the ancient world. This cheese was the main source of protein and calcium because not everyone had meat on their table.

Another freshman participant in the same SOfIA project showcased their work with ancient Roman concrete in mosaics. “Roman concrete has been around for 2,000 year,” said Michael Beckett, “… it has quicklime as well as pozzolana, which is volcanic ash in it…when the concrete cracks, water seeps in, or comes into contact with dissolved limestone, the concrete creates new concrete that fills those cracks,”

The event reached beyond the college itself with participants such as the Warren County Library, Warren County History Museum, University of Illinois, Knox College, and Augustana College.

“I’m coming back as an alum to the next one,” said Serpette.

From September 24-27, Link attended the Kappa Leadership Academy at Camp Widjiwagan, just outside of Nashville. The retreat focused on leadership development, confidence, and building relationships with fellow Kappas.

“I knew that this trip would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to be able to gain life skills, become a better leader, and surround myself with like-minded people,” Link said.

Throughout the weekend, members discussed the importance of personal values and how those values influence the people around them. For her, those conversations connected closely with the work she does as a member of her chapter’s executive board.

“There are values that each person has that apply to their own lives, and it is important to surround yourselves with people that share these values with you, and understand why your values are important,” said Link. “One of the things that our exec board excels at is the sharing of ideas, and the significance of our shared values within our work as leaders. We find it very important to bring each member of our chapter’s ideas together, so we are able to succeed and have the best possible outcome.”

While leadership development was at the center of this experience, the retreat also allowed participants to connect outside of the formal activities. From learning how to line dance to sitting around a fire with fellow sisters, the opportunities for relationship building were endless.

“This retreat gave me insight on not only how to grow as a leader within my sorority and with the positions I will hold throughout my college experience but also gave me insight on different alumni of Kappa Kappa Gamma and their lives,” Link said.

This experience provided a new perspective on the history of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Monmouth is especially important to this history as the original chapter was founded right here on Monmouth’s campus in 1870. Being a member of the founding chapter allowed Rachel a new perspective on how impactful Monmouth was in the creation of this sisterhood.

“These opportunities are important as student leaders, as they give you opportunities to bring ideas and new perspectives back to your organization,” Link said. “This opportunity gave me a fresh outlook on Kappa, and inspired me to grow as a leader in so many different ways.”

For her, the retreat demonstrated that leadership opportunities within a sorority can extend beyond a college campus, creating connections that continue long after the experience is over.

“It is truly such a great opportunity to be able to go somewhere 500 miles away and still feel right at home with the people that share Kappa with me,” Link said.

In 1942, during World War II, Ross had the opportunity to join the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as a mathematical research assistant where she specialized in understanding how aircrafts respond to aerodynamic forces. Through this work, Ross decided to pursue advanced aeronautical engineering courses, eventually qualifying her as a registered professional engineer in 1949. This made her the first known female Native American engineer. Ross’s work with Lockheed Aircraft Corporation then led to work with their new company, Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, where she worked on submarine-launched missiles and the Agena launch vehicle, which transported military, intelligence, and civilian materials to space. Unfortunately, due to the confidential nature of her work, much of what she did remains unknown and classified, though she did contribute to NASA’s Interplanetary Flight Handbook, Vol. 3 (1963), which provided spacecraft flight paths to Mars and Venus and was used to aid the work of human spaceflight researchers.

Ross was considered a legend to Native American engineering students. She retired in 1973 but continued to encourage her Native American culture through the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) and attended the 2004 opening of the NMAI in Washington, D.C., to which she gave more then $400,00 to the museum toward an endowment. Ross died in 2008 at the age of 99, just four months short of 100.

Directed by Professor Todd Quick, Macbeth follows the tragic downfall of a warrior who returns from the war. Three witches offer Macbeth complete control as they see a prophecy that he will one day become king. Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth, then try and make the vision a reality, resulting in a devastating chain of events as they use any means necessary to hold on to power.

Senior Lindsay Logan, who will be playing Lady Macbeth, said “She is a very complex character that you can even empathize with at times…I have never played a morally grey character before, and it is difficult.”

Robert Robison will play the main character, Macbeth. Abby Zayas will be playing Macduff, and Adyson Beebe will be playing Banquo.

The show runs October 9-11 at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are still available online by visiting the Theatre Program website.

The Vikings struck first in the seventh minute, when Ava Elders found a shot off a sharp angle that hit the roof of the hosts’ net and tacked on another goal just 12 minutes later. Vikings struck again in the 48th and 59th minutes to walk away with three points in conference standings.

The Vikings outshot the Scots 15-8 (10-6) on the afternoon. Both Cadence Covert and Izzy Seipold split time between the pipes, with Covert recording four saves and Seipold registering two.

After hosting the Cornell College Rams on Tuesday evening, the Scots will return to Peacock Park on Friday, October 2, to host the Storm of Simpson College. Kickoff for Friday evening is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
