The Scots won for the second time against Eureka College this season on Tuesday, October 31st, and swept them 3-0. “We had already played Eureka earlier in the season, so going into the game, we were confident in ourselves and our abilities to get the job done,” said junior Layne Wright.

The first set started with the Scots and Eureka scoring back and forth until the Scots took over after a 12-12 tie in the first set when Wright scored two kills followed by an ace from Savannah Robinson, resulting in a 25-18 win on the first set. They fought hard in the second set, scoring 25-5. During the last set, Eureka came back and put up a fight, keeping the score tied. They took the lead 15-13 until Amanda Dybal tied the set with a kill. Monmouth regained the lead on an error from Eureka. The Scots continued to lead 18-16. Eureka kept up with three straight scores, making the score 21-20. Wright had a kill on an overpass to tie the set at 22 and then combined with CeCe Palladino for a block, regaining the lead for the Scots.

Dybal led the Scots with 12 kills, and Wright followed with 10. Paige Bergschneider led the team with 28 assists. “We came out strong and ready to play from the beginning and didn’t let up,” said Bergschneider. Palladino had two blocks, while Zoe Nizzia and Ana Iatauro both had 11 digs, and Robinson had eight.

“What I am going to miss most about playing with this team is the excitement we get for each other for every point. There is so much love on that court, and we’re all each other’s biggest fans,” said Dybal. The match was the Scots’ last win of the season.
