The Monmouth College softball team lost their first two home games on Thursday against Illinois Wesleyan. The Scots lost the opener 4-0 despite their chances to score early in the game. Monmouth had two runners on base in both the first and third innings but couldn’t get them across home base. Senior Pitcher Abby Leber (Tremont, Ill.) let the Titans score in the fourth with two hits and a wild pitch, and IWU scored again in the fifth and seventh to end the game with a 4-0 win.
The Scots were no-hit in the second game, losing 5-1 as the game was called due to darkness after five innings. The Titans scored in each of the first three innings in the second game, with a home run giving them a 5-0 lead after the top of the third. Sophomore Catcher Olivia Riddley (Chatham, Ill.) was the only runner to get on base in the 5th inning. With one out, she scored on a throwing error to get the Scots on the board. After the next out, the umpires called the game due to darkness. The Scots play again on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 against Fontbonne University.
