Now that you’ve gotten to campus and gotten into your routine, you might be looking for something to fill up your free time. Well, instead of using that time to endlessly binge Netflix or fail at Fortnite, why not be productive and join one of the many Student Organizations we have on campus?
There are plenty of Student Organizations to choose from. If sports are your thing, we have plenty of sports to choose from on-campus. But if sports aren’t your thing, then there are plenty of academic-based clubs to choose from. There is a Classics Club, a newly reformed History Club, a French Club, a Kinesiology Club, a Business and Economics Club, and lots, lots more.
If academics sound boring to you then we also have a couple of special interest clubs, such as TableTop Gaming Club. We also have the Garden Club for anyone interested in getting dirty with some veggies in the campus garden and the Adventure Club for people just looking to go outside more.
If you want to something more directly impactful on campus, try joining one of the several college centered clubs or service clubs. ASMC, our student government, is always looking for new members. ASAP is responsible for most of the events you see around campus. The Courier (the paper you are reading right now :0) is always looking for more writers. Of course, we have Greek Life, which about 25% of the campus is involved with. Rotaract and Rotary Club are service clubs you can join while Mindful Monmouth and Campus Ministries are also things that exist.
If you want to do something for the culture on campus, try joining Raices or UMOJA. There’s also H.E.R. and Solace (a Queer safe space). We also have several music groups like the Highland Harmonizers and Colorful Voices of Praise. There is an Improv Group on campus that is always looking for new members. There are also many theatre productions throughout the school year that anybody can be a part of, whether you’re looking for acting or backstage management.
These are just a taste of all the things you can do on campus. There are plenty more groups to find if you just look around a little. If you’re interested in any of the groups listed here, ask around. I’m sure you know someone that has a connection to one of these clubs. And if you don’t, ask a stranger. Monmouth is a safe and friendly place with a lot of character. Someone is sure to help you find exactly what you’re searching for.
