Last week, the Greek community at Monmouth College came together to participate in Greek Week. For those not involved in a Greek organization or do not know what Greek Week is, it is a week full of activities fit to a certain theme that each organization competes in, as well as raising money and collecting donations for a local organization. This year donations were made to the Warren County Animal Shelter.
This year’s Greek Week theme was Mystery. Throughout the week there were events such as a Blood Drive, a Guess Who? Trivia Night, Laser Tag, a Banner Competition, an Escape Room, and a Greek Week Show. All of these events allow members from each organization to create teams to compete to win. The more events you win, the better chance you have at winning Greek Week overall. However, if you did not want to participate in the Greek Week activities, you could come to the events and cheer on your team to gain spirit points.
Towards the end of the week, the directors of Greek Week host the Greek Week Show. This year’s show was judged by Chris Goble, Audra Goach Sostarecz, and Dean Mark Willhardt. Each group performed a skit and dance that best showed their interpretation of the theme. Each organization also a senior women or male, and a freshman women or male, showcase a talent. To finish out the Greek Week Show, the winners of the Greek Week Banner, Talent portion, and the Greek Week skit and Dance as a whole were announced. This year, Pi Beta Phi won all three of those areas.
After a long week of competition, Greek Week is concluded with a banquet. This banquet takes place in the cafeteria and is catered by Monmouth College. During the banquet, different organizations are recognized and awarded for different areas within their chapter. The Greek Women of the Year, and the Greek Man of the Year are just two out of the many awards given. The women of Alpha Xi Delta also won the Academic Excellence Award. Once all the awards are given out, the winners of the spirit stick and the Greek Week Champions are announced. This year’s spirit stick was awarded to the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma. With that being said, this year’s Greek Week Champions were Pi Beta Phi.
